How we stay healthy(ier) over holidays!

How we stay healthy(ier) over holidays!

We are not going to tell you to be strict with your diet, stop drinking alcohol, remove all joy.... its the HOLIDAYS for gods sake and we want you to be fun, frivolous and free!

We are going to tell you however, some of OUR favourite 5 ways to enjoy ourselves but not feel worse AFTER holidays

1. Support your liver

The liver is a well known SUPERSTAR. Our liver removes all toxins, clears medication from your body and metabolises all your food. It also assists with regulating hormones. If you are going to enjoy your champagne, we are in full support however load yourself up with Milk Thistle. Several studies suggest that milk thistle protects the liver from toxins, AND has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Trust us, this will make you feel a million times better after consuming alcohol and higher calorie foods over the silly season!

2. Leave days free

Do you every feel guilty that you should be outside enjoying the day? Think you always need to be arranging activities to keep everyone occupied and to just be 'doing' things? Our advice is DON'T. Leave days free in the holidays to spend time just lazing around the home. Having no agenda, no where to go or be. Enjoy each others company and relaxxxxx. Because its these days that do actually reset your body, reduce your cortisol and leave you feeling like you are actually on holiday. Don't be someone who needs 'a holiday after the holiday'.

3. Don't deprive, just replace

Relaxing is also about being free to consume what you like, but not at the detriment to your digestive system. Replacing that leftover christmas cake with your LUKA will save you a lot of calories, fill you up with the good stuff and provide prebiotics for your gut which will appreciate the support. PLUS you still get the sweet treat. We aren't necessarily about taking things out of your diet, but are more about adding the good things in so you don't have to choose!

4. Do at home Pilates

All you need is 20-30 minutes in the comfort of your home and you will feel and see the benefits. We love that Pilates seems to move the stagnant energy out of our body and always leaves us feeling on top of the world. Holidays we often start to feel sluggish and say "i cant wait to get back into a routine" but if you can fit in a small session of pilates a day, you are still maintaining a healthy routine. PLUS you wont have the guilt of signing up to classes with good intention but inevitable cancelling them as you cant be bothered/hung over/tired! At home is fast, effective and uplifting. Our fav are Melissa Wood Health and Pip Reed Nutrition.

5. Digestive enzymes

We cannot do without these when we are indulging on heavier foods than usual. We ensure to have them before our meals and they help break down your food so your body can get the most nutrients. When you have foods that are higher in fat, carbs and dairy this process can be disrupted and you may experience discomfort (ex., bloating, gas).  They contain Amylase that break down carbohydrates into simple sugars like glucose, Protease that break down proteins into amino acids and Lipase that breaks down fats into fatty acid and glycerol!

And above all of this, HAVE FUNNNNNNNNN and enjoy yourself!

Love

Lucy and Kate
